I'm not sure if you are referring to when they cut the threads or in the beginning when they cut the ends of the strips after you 45 degree them so they all attach together end to end and the cutting is the left-over fabric at that end which is a small triangular piece. This piece is not needed and usually has some of the selvage (if not cut off already). If this is not explanatory, please let me know. Are you a new quilter? I'm going to make two more that are a baby quilt from a jelly roll and another that is matching to my dear departed mother's (Easter Sunday) I made for her and she didn't get as she passed away.
