    Red face feathered circle

I am making this carpenters star quilt after seeing one one here that someone else was making, as you can see I have started quilting it...I've always admired the look of the feathered star quilting patterns, but until today never tried to quilt one. On the front side it looks pretty good, but on the back side (purple side) it looks pretty sloppy. Anyone have any good techniques on sewing this pattern. I know...practice makes a little more perfect...thought someone out there would have a "rhythm" to follow when actually sewing it.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

In case you are wondering...yes this is for my oncology project...and I recycled a scrub shirt and one of my husbands shirts to make it.

Check out Diane Gaudynski. She does feathers with a double line for the spine and a small even space in between each part then she echo quilts around the outside with the same distance. I find it easier to do feathers this way as I don't have to travel over any previous stitching and I don't get thread build ups on the spine.

If you go through some of her older blog posts she explains her feathers very well.

Looks great Pat! Your back looks like the tension was a little off? But other than that, WOW!

I'm very impressed, I don't do any machine quilting except for SITD so this looks great to me.

I think it looks great for your first attempt at that pattern. I agree the tension looks a bit off, but it looks great.
