flannel is my choice.
Definitely flannel because the fringe turns out so full and fluffy after the quilt is washed. Also, you can't beat flannel for snuggling!
I like a mixture of cotton and flannel
I agree with tams. I like cotton and flannel.... I usually sandwich flannel between cottons, but sometimes I use one square of cotton and one of flannel
I have only made them out of Denim on the top with flannel at the back.
Flannel is my favorite. It's so soft.
Flannel and/or cotton
Flannel, its so soft and warm!
I noticed that some use batting and some don't. I want to try making a flannel rag baby quilt. I'd love to make it without batting but worry it will be too lightweight. Any opinions?
@rebecca
Maybe use a thin towel or blanket inbetween as a batting for the babyquilt. Without anything I think it really will be too lightweight.
Rebecca, I like using 3 layers of flannel for baby quilts, it 'rags' so beautifully.
Thanks! I think using another piece of flannel for batting is the way to go. Sounds like I can cut the flannel the same size as the squares so it will be sewn into the seams and I won't have to do any quilting. If using batting the tut I saw said to cut the batting squares an inch smaller than the flannel squares. In that case, the quilt has to be quilted to hold the batting in place. I would like to avoid that step. She used 8"squares of flannel. That should make a really quick baby quilt! I like "quick."
Flannel with no batting.
