I've never done a photo quilt although I've made quilts. Could you please steer me to information about how to go about it? I have an ink jet printer.
Thanks.

Ann, I have made a few photo quilts now. After some trial and error with different brands of printable fabric the only one I will use now is called Matilda's Own. I tried Printed Treasures and Jacquard (they were cheaper) but found the quality of print and colour was rather poor.
I buy the A4 size (5 or 10 sheets per pack) and can print photos up to 8" square. I quite like that as a maximum size although depending on your needs it may be better as a smaller block size. The pack comes with instructions on use and care of the fabric once it is incorporated into a quilt.
The fabric is not pure bright white but blends well with most colourings.
Once you have decided on a pattern for your quilt and the size of the photo blocks all you need to do is print your pics at the size required and the rest is the same for any quilt really.
The fabric is also a little tougher and you definitely notice the difference when your machine needle goes through it. Doesn't seem to do any harm though.
Hope this helps a little and I'm sure other folks will have more advice and info for you.
Be sure and post pics of your project and good luck!![]()
May your sorrows be patched and your joys be quilted
The photo fabric will have very specific instructions about printing, drying, rinsing in water to release extra ink, etc. Be prepared -- they use a lot of ink. I fussy cut my photos to about 6.5 inch squares and then used the attic windows pattern. I would definitely make another -- it's a bit more work to follow the steps for the photos but well worth it when you see the finished product. I also used bamboo batting (can be quilted as far apart as 8") so that no quilting had to be done on the photo -- just stitch in the ditch around the outside of the photo and then the quilting for the non-photo portion of the quilt. Have fun!

I bought some ink jet transfer fabric but haven't done anything with it yet. Good luck on your project.
I have done a couple, I use June Taylors brand. I like the cream but the white is the only one I found as the value pack. I had issues getting one sheet thru my printer and great customer service I e-mailed and they sent me a new pack. I used joanns coupons and got them 1/2 off (well my mom did since were in Germany). They have great instructions, I've been happy.
I bought a pack of the photo fabric and have printed one photo so far. I used a photo with lots of bright orange in it and did what it said to do and it was fine - then I put it to the test. Washing in warmer water with detergent, putting in the dryer, ironing etc. because if I make a quilt with it I want to know what to expect. It seemed to hold up well. I don't have it here by my computer so not sure what brand it is but I got it at JoAnns.
