Ann, I have made a few photo quilts now. After some trial and error with different brands of printable fabric the only one I will use now is called Matilda's Own. I tried Printed Treasures and Jacquard (they were cheaper) but found the quality of print and colour was rather poor.
I buy the A4 size (5 or 10 sheets per pack) and can print photos up to 8" square. I quite like that as a maximum size although depending on your needs it may be better as a smaller block size. The pack comes with instructions on use and care of the fabric once it is incorporated into a quilt.
The fabric is not pure bright white but blends well with most colourings.
Once you have decided on a pattern for your quilt and the size of the photo blocks all you need to do is print your pics at the size required and the rest is the same for any quilt really.
The fabric is also a little tougher and you definitely notice the difference when your machine needle goes through it. Doesn't seem to do any harm though.
Hope this helps a little and I'm sure other folks will have more advice and info for you.
Be sure and post pics of your project and good luck!![]()
