How do you usually quilt your jelly roll race quilts? SITD across the rows? Or FMQ pattern across the entire top? Inquiring minds want to know! I have 2 UFO jelly roll race quilts that I need to finish.

I've just started putting mine together to quilt and I'm going to STID (at least as much as I can stay in the ditch) and then I think I'm going to do some diagonal - not sure yet but I just want to do straight stitching on it.
Shirley... when you get your new frame.. load it with the strips going "up and down" ie. NOT horizontal... and do a ramble horizontal.. i'm taking a quick picture of what i mean, this is by no means beautiful this way, but wanted to give you the idea... it's actually quite nice in a quilt.. i've done a few this way... will post in my album one, if i can find a good picture...:)
I think the pattern calls for either stitch in the ditch to accentuate the strips, or an all over simple free motion pattern which will calm the strips down. So it would depend on whether you want to make the strips 'pop' or make them settle in to the background. I think it mostly depends on the fabrics used in the quilt as to which way you decide to go.
Just my humble opinion but.............
I would SITD every other strip and then (assuming you have a yummy wide boarder) do lines of diagonal straight rows on the boarder...........maybeeeeeeeeeeeee depending the the jelly roll you used with a lovely co ordinating sparkly thread. If there is a nice deep purple in the quilt i love to pick that out.......looks truely lovely. Its fun to play with special threads. Ohhhhhhhhhh and add an applique to a corner too!
Errr..... before you layer it obviously lol
I finished one recently using a pond meander, similar to what GrammaBabs shows on paper. Here it is a picture: http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/alb...chmentid=18659
Pond, Babs, I got it from your picture, thanks forthe suggestion on turning it. Do you mean the strips should run from the front to the back of the frame?
I would say any straight line pattern until seeing Cyndi's pond meandering. I really like the way that one looks!
you could also do a crosshatch grid on the diagonal either in squares or diamonds 3" or 4" apart.
