By turning the purple triangles in the 1st version that Angela posted, you would get an easier-to-piece version of square in a square such as Slokarma posted further up in this post.

I really like the churn and dash and will probably try it on my next quilt. I haven't had too much luck with the pinwheels but I'll keep trying.
Thanks
I'm partial to attic windows to use with fussy cuts.If you don't like the y seam there are patterns that use a half sq. trianlge block in the corner instead.
sorry about the job thing. we have played that game a few times and it's not fun. there is something better waiting for you I'm sure. good luck.
You could do a star block (9-patch with half-square triangle blocks for the middle blocks in each outside row). That would be simple to do. Use the fussy-cut blocks for the center square. I think it might be called friendship star, but I'm not certain.
Good luck, and don't let the job thing get you down. At 62, I lost my job after 9 1/2 years. When this happens, it's THEIR loss!!!

When I 1st started quilting, I chose patterns that I could easily "see" the steps without an actual pattern and break down into how to do each actual block. If I could see the components that made up the block, I could figure it out without complicated patterns(self taught quilter here, no formal training whatsoever). Both of these foot the bill on that.
