Default Where to go for a cuttingmat and sort of ruler???

On my trip to the USA I'm planning to get a larger cutting mat.
I also want to buy a sort of mat I've seen at a video of Eleonor Burns, she used a mat that she put on top of her fabric that was on her cuttingmat.
Then she could cut between lines and that gave her perfect strips and squares.
I would love to have one of those, but I don't know what they are called and I have no idea what the price is......

Could anybody of you tell me where to go and look for one, the name and the price???
Or does any of you have one and knows if it is any good???

It looked so easy and fun to use, I think it would work also great to cut all the fabric for the Jackobs Ladder Swap, my first project after I get home!!

I hope you guys can help me out here

    Thanks!!!

The mat that you want for cutting strips is called the June Tailor Shape Cut ruler. There's also a Shape Cut Plus and a Shape Cut Pro. The Pro version has cutting slots every 2 1/2 inches. The Plus version is smaller but has slots every 1/4 ". I have the Shape Cut Pro and used it for the first time recently to cut jelly roll strips and charm squares from yardage for the Jacob's ladder. It worked great and I really like it. I think the Plus version might be more versatile because you can cut more varied sizes with it. You can find these at JoAnn's Fabrics, Wal-mart, Hobby Lobby, and probably at most local quilt shops.

joann's for sure here in the US...but if you can find someone with the flyer of the week... use it for sure... but hopefully it will be in the "sale category" which means no coupon use... Have fun shopping here... now i'm gonna dig out my shape cut for the JL project!!

I've been been thinking about getting the same ruler and was shopping around for the best price. Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon that can be used online or printed for in store use.

You can also use the Hobby Lobby coupon at Joann's as well. I know they have the Shape cut ruler.

I have the regular shapecut ruler and love it. The slots are a half inch apart but there is a line a 1/4 inch from the first cut line so you can cut any sizes that are a multiple of 1/4 inch. It also has lines printed on it to cut different shapes instead of just strips though I've not done that.

Any one you choose would be great I'd say. Good luck. (Oh, while I have seen them at quilt shops I got mine at Walmart, so it should not be hard to find one.)

I did not know that. Thank you for mentioning I could use the HL coupon at JA's. I hate paying full price for most everything, but particularly on notions and rulers!

The Shape Cut Pro has slots every 1/2 inch, not 2 1/2. I got mine by ordering online at Joann's for 50% off. I know they carry the Plus in the store, but at the time they only carried the Pro online.

I love mine but you do have to make sure that your fabric folds are lined up evenly or you will have wonky strips. There are crossways lines to help you make sure your fold is straight.

You had better bring a very big empty suitcase with you for all your treasures that you collect! Hope you have a great time here in the U.S. Wish we could meet in person!
