100% cotton fabric......
Does all 100% cotton stretch? I thought it didn't. But every brand of 100% I buy...stretches...just almost as much as cotton/poly does. I have bought from Connecting Threads and from Jo-ann's a brand called Legendary Quilt (or something like that...Legendary something) and it says 'quilters preferred" (not sure if that is part of the brand name or just a comment)under that. Both are 100% quilting speciality cotton. And they stretch. And, both seem kind of thinner than I would think they should. the cotton/poly is really thin, and this isn't quite that thin, but again, I would think 100% cotton for quilting would be a bit heavier.
Any comments? Jo-ann's has Kona cotton and it is $2 a yard more than this Legendary brand...and they don't feel any different in weight. I hate stretch as that is what messed me up so much in doing the small squares and tri's...just the rotary cutter cutting it against the template, was enough stress on the fabric (I used Symphony Broadcloth) to make it stretch just a tiny bit...on at least 2 sides and then all I put together and they all had that tiny bit of stretch that made the squares not match up when sewed together. I learned to give a smidgeon on the size when cutting them, and that helped but I never see the videos of Jenny or Elenor Burns or Fonz and Porter "giving" when they cut their fabric and of course it comes out perfect every time!
So...a lesson on 100% cotton anyone? I know it is a bit more expensive to quilt, but at the same time...no sense buying the more expensive pure if it doesn't do any better than the blends.
