    Smile Cotton Batting

    Hello everyone!!!

I am kinda new to the quilting seen. Starting on my second quilt and was looking for cotton batting. I noticed there are two - Warm & Natural and Soft & Natural. What is the difference? Are they both 100% cotton?

Thanks so much for reading this. Hope to get lots of replies.

I'm new too, haven't made anything yet or bought any fabric. But I did watch all the MSQC videos on YouTube so I feel like a pro in my head. LOL, I noticed this too when I was shopping around so hopefully someone has the answer for both of us!

Wish me luck! THanks for responding. Watch my posts and see if we get an answer and then we will both know. LOL

"Soft & Bright Needled polyester Batting from the makers of Warm & Natural"

I found that, but did not find a Soft & Natural when I looked it up on Google.

It's listed under products. Appreciate the help. It is made by the Warm & Natural company as you see

I think either would be fine maybe this will help:

Soft & Natural says 100% cotton

Warm & Natural say 100% cotton needlepunched:

Thanks for the reply. Just trying to figure out which one would be appropriate for a very warm quilt that has some thickness to it. I make quilts for their use instead of looks only. So they will get handled alot. Thin quilts are extremely beautiful but I prefer thicker ones.

Warm & Natural has a scrim, Soft & Natural doesn't.

    Scrim
    (skrĭm)
    n.
A durable, loosely woven cotton or linen fabric used for curtains or upholstery lining or in industry.
A transparent fabric used as a drop in the theater to create special effects of lights or atmosphere.

It's a very thin fabric, probably like a very thin cheesecloth that the cotton fibers are punched through to make the batting. On the batting without the scrim it is a different needleing process to produce the batting. I would imagine that the Soft & Natural might be a little easier to hand quilt, although I've never had any issues hand quilting the Warm & Natural.

The battings from the Warm Company are normally fairly low loft, which makes for a thinner quilt. This works great for me because it's not that cold where I live but they are plenty warm, even for thinner quilts. If you wanted a warmer, higher loft, you could always use 2 layers of the batting.

So if you were to make a quilt for warmth the Warm & Natural would be the way to go?
