Default friendship braid question, need help-

I put together the start of a frienship braid quilt, have 4 sections done, my question is do I straighten the top and bottom before I add the sashings in between the braids? Jenny's tutorial doesn't show that part. I found one tutorial online that shows the sashings put on then the top and bottom cut straight. How do you all do yours? Here's what I have so far.

    Thanks!

I have never made one so don't have an answer for your question but I sure like the way it looks right now, without sashing.
Instead of trimming the bottom, could you put a triangle of one of the fabrics in there? I think that would look nice.

I agree with Claire, I like it the way it is..... and I don't know if this would work but wouldn't it be pretty to leave the top and bottom uneven. And quilt it the way it is with the nice triangular shapes? ( I might have to try that one myself lol)

But if you don't want to straighten it, I think it would be easier to do after the sashings, again that's just my opinion, though.

This is so pretty! Great job on the braids!

I've never done one (I mean I haven't done one yet - it's on my list near the top) but I think you'd get straighter edges if you trim it after you add the sashing.

More pictures when it's done, okay?

You work fast! It was just a little piece yesterday, and now look at how much you have done! I'm curious for others to answer, because I, too, have not done one but have it definitely on my bucket list to make one soon.

Hope we both find out the answer.

I finished a friendship braid quilt a couple of weeks ago.. i trimmed the ends first and then did the sashings. Probably doesn't matter one way or the other. Cutting the ends off first saves fabric. As soon as I figure out how to put in a picture I will.

I love it the way it is. VERY pretty! Please post more pics when its done. What line of fabric is that?
I made a friendship braid with the half hex and had a very tiny bit to trim. I don't know how I'd do this one....good luck!

Normally you would trim it before adding your sashes. It's going to be beautiful! Barb

Using the binding tool you have to cut off quite a bit, don't know it that's so with other methods to get straight edges. The fabric line is called Grace.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I am planning on adding sashing between the braids (but a very narrow one) with a small green companion print that's used in the braids, and the back will be a red comanion print (paisley and flowers) of a not very large scale.
