    Default Problem with thread.....Need help

Since my new Singer 9960 was getting the fluff in the bobbin cage so bad and to get a quilting thread (to be as professional as possible!), I changed thread. Reading discussions here, I chose Essentials (brand) 100% egyptian cotton silk covered thread from connectingthreads.com.

Problem: THe top stitch line is perfect. Straight and even stitch. Stitch length is set at 2.5. However, the bobbin stitch line is crooked. Not your typical bobbin thread problem of it being to tight or to loose and that bumpy effect look...the stitches themselves are in there fine...but crooked. I mean the stitching line is literally so uneven and crooked...how can it possibly be sewing so straight on the top, but so line crooked on the bottom? I have done all the things like checking and rethreading top and bobbin. Tried different fabrics, changed the stitch length...but nothing works. Still that bobbin thread line is crooked.

Anyone have any thoughts about this? I have been sewing for 40 years and have never seen this one before! I have never had "silk covered" thread before, but surely that couldn't be the reason..or why would the top be fine? Then.. I bought 4 colors...I have heard that people have gone through several different brands before they found one their machine would "accept", but good grief..where do you start and the expense to go through how many before you fined "the one"? I want it to be right, but money is an object.

So I was hoping that if someone else has a Singer 9960 or maybe any Singer...they might have an idea. I used to use CandC Dual Duty cotton covered poly, but that made to much fluff in the bobbin cage on this Singer. My other Singer (25 years old) it worked great on. So..any takers on this delima?

I ordered a Singer earlier this year (have already sent it back). I tried several different threads and the fluff kept getting in the bobbin case and jamming the machine. As for the crooked sewing on the bottom, I don't know.

The only thing I can think of for you to try is to slightly tighten the tension on your bobbin case. I'm thinking that maybe because of the silk covering the thread slides through easier and is just loose enough to make it lay crooked instead of straight. I say slight, because if it were alot your upper line wouldn't lay straight. Just try a tiny bit and see if that helps.

The reason I say this is cause I had a Singer 2010 for hte last 25 years. Back then I had a repair man work on it a few times for jamming and he told me it was the cheap thread I was using. He said nothing but Dual Duty cotton covered poly. I started using that and it seldom got any fluff ar all. So when I got the new 9960 I still used the CCpoly and after awhile it did start to collect the fuzz. Also in reading here...I am quilting now so I wanted a quilting thread. Other than that I have had no trouble at all with the machine.

That's what I thought to. So I did fiddle with the tension on scrap fabric and it only did the usual loosen and tighten like it does any other time the tension is either way. I loosed/tightened the thread, but did nothing for the crookedness. What brand/style/kind do you use for your quilting? Is the silk an issue? I guess I missed the silk part and just got it cause of the egyptian part...hearing 100% egylptian thread was good in sheets.

I have never used the silk covered thread. It should be fine because it's a natural fiber. I use the 100% egyptian cotton thread from Connecting Threads, just not the silk covered.

I think the silk portion is what is causing my problem. I got this from ConnectcingThreads.com too. Didn't notice about the silk but then wouldn't have thought it'd be "slippery" either! Oh, well, I'll just use it on things that don't need an exact straight seam.

I don't like the Connecting Threads thread, I find it produces too much lint. I have tried many others but always end up going back to the Mettler brand. The poor bobbin stitching I am sorry to say is probably inherent with the sewing machine. You might try switching to another high quality thread like Mettler, Presencia, Gutermann, or Aurifil to see if that helps but I kinda doubt it will. The Presencia and Aurifil really do produce less lint but are too expensive for me to justify their usage. I think you need a better quality sewing machine! I sew on a Bernina purchased 19 years ago and still love it!

Cheri - only one thing I can think of that may be of help to you. Are you using the very same thread in your bobbin that you are using for your top thread? If so, try a different thread in the bobbin and see if that may help a bit.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??
