Help with Dresden plate pattern

I have been thinking of doing a Dresden plate baby quilt. But with my arthritis I am sure I will be doing some sort of machine stitching. I would definitely machine stitch if it was a large quilt.

I hand appliqued....and am now hand appliqueing the center circles...I have 6 left...then I will post! It's only 6 years in the making!!!

OK I'll be the lone decenter. I made a lap size and I put the pate on a 14 1/2 size backround piece. Folded the backround piece inhalf twice, to find the center. Then I pinned the plate to the backround. Put the center on and pinned it. Then I did the blanket stich by machine around the plate and then the center. If I felt any shifting--then a dab of fabric glue helped. But I didn"t need to glue. When I get the top together I'll machine stitch around the plate--moving 1/4 inch away and then between the plate sections. then on the inside of the center by 1/4th inch. This will keep the sandwich from shifting. Hope this helps and I'll post a picture when I'm done. Pam

Not the only one, I have plans for a dresden sunflower wall hanging and I will be machine stitching it. I may or may not glue baste it. I did a big flower applique on a baby quilt yesterday and did glue baste it then did a satin stitch around and it worked great. If it continues to look cute to me I may enter it into our guild's show this Summer.

I always handstitch mine. I'm so afraid I'll mess it up trying the do it by machine.

I made one for my husband's grandmother a few years ago..I used a light fusible webbing to place them then I used a blanket stitch to sew them on...worked great..

I really don't mind the handwork! It looks so much nicer to me. I just decide to do one every evening while watching something good on the tube. Before I know it, I've got beautiful blocks ready to turn into a quilt! We're such a hurry-up society today. Some things just shouldn't be rushed. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it!

I did both of my dresdens on my machine. The yellow one as you can see I stitched inside each petal and the green one I did a blanket stitch around the outside of the flower petals and did a SID down each petal to secure it to the background and then I did a satin stitch around the center of the flower.
