Default Need pattern suggestions..Minnie Mouse theme

Here are the fabrics I have chosen for the MInnie Mouse quilt I am designing for my 3 year old grandaughter for her new room in her new house. The one color is a light turquoise color that matches the little leaves/flowers in the MM fabric. Then regular pink and red with white dots which of course matches her dress. I also have a solid red (not shown as I haven't bought it yet) and can always add white to the mix.

I would like to use the tumbler template. It is to be about twin bed size. I have fleece of MM for the back. I would like to do blocks and not long strips. Squares no smaller than 3,1/2x3,1/2 inches in cut size. Blocks no bigger than 12x12 finished.

I say the 5" tumbler is what I would like to use only cause I want something differnet and just bought the 5" tumbler. IT is for a little girl so I am thinking of keeping the blocks/design area smaller.

The only thought I have is to use the tumblers in alternating colors, then a sashing then the final border of the tumblers again...but anything else you can think of? And what suggestions do you have for the interior of the quilt if I do the borders like this? I also have a half hexi template, and although I didn't really like that (I used a charm pack to make a sash of the half hexi and it didn't turn out as good as I was hoping, but...not that I am writing it off completely.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

you could use the half-hexie in a friendship braid pattern.... there is a tutorial on it ..... it shows the material really well. the tumbler block is a great idea. I think it will be lovely no mater what you do and your grand-daughter will LOVE it cause YOU made it.

Yeah, that tutorial is where I learned about the friendship braid (I always forget to call it that!) and that is what I was talking about that I had made one and it didn't turn out very good. Maybe it was the fabric prints I chose. I used a charm pak...forget the name, but it was ones I wasn't very happy with in the first place so I used them to practice and learn the friendship braid. But I loved the pattern on the tutorial!

I agree, too, with "coffee break" that your granddaughter is going to love the quilt no matter what it looks like because you made it. So, give her the one you made or make a "quillow" out of it---either way she will get it and she will love it. Then you could always make her one for her bed---that's if you turn this one into a quillow!!! Piece and blessings, Vicki

It would also make a really cute disappearing 9 patch. Mini could be the main square. : )

A D9P is something I have been wanting to try. What do you mean by the "main square"? Main square in the middle of the whole quilt with D9P's all around it? Or main square within the D9P? Not having ever done a D9P...what would the sashings be?

Oh, I know she will love it...and not cause I made it (at least not right now...she is 3!) but cause it is Minnie Mouse! Her "first love" is Mickey, but Minnie is her best friend! I am hoping to have enough of the Minni to make a pillowcase. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think the main square on a D9P is/are the corner squares of the 9 patch. They are the squares that aren't cut At all when you cut the 9 patch apart. I'm working on one right
Now and I put my most important print and biggest print on the corners. I'm working with Dogwood Trails fabric.

By the way, I love your fabric, we are going to see Mickey and Minnie this summer-- my first trip to Disneyworld, with all the grandkids! I'll want to find that fabric after our trip!

Very cute fabric, I think a D9P would be cute with that fabric.

Have a wonderful time... there is NO PLACE on earth i'd love to be more than in Disney... i took my kids (39 and 41, and SIS 60 2 yrs ago.... stayed in the Contemporary.... if you can swing it... it's the best way to go... stay in the park...look into the dining plan as well.... i know the "kid theme" hotels have super deals and it's wonderful to be able to get back to a room for a rest... then there is the fact that you have an extra hour every day of a designated theme park to experience without the public... a definite plus...oh don't get me started... i just know you'll have a wonderful time..... hugs B
