Re: cutting mat is broken
Wow! That's kind of shocking. I would definitely return that to the store - surely there is a warranty on it! I use Olfa mats and have had no problem at all, it still looks brand new. Good luck!
Re: cutting mat is broken
My cutting mats have always lasted at least 5 years or longer. I would take it back to the store and see if they will replace it. Barb
Re: cutting mat is broken
I agree.. take it back. It should not have done that!
Re: cutting mat is broken
I have had an OLFA mat for years and I press pretty hard sometimes...so far, so good. I agree with the others. I'd take it back.
Re: cutting mat is broken
I agree take it back I have some Fiskars mats and they haven't done that. Is it a self healing mat?
Re: cutting mat is broken
I've had my mat for at least 5 years. I do have little grooves in some areas where I've cut a lot but I've never cut all the way through the mat. Is it a self-healing mat? If not, it will crack and you will ruin your cutting blades. If it's a self-healting mat then I'd take it back to the store where you bought it, if you still have your receipt to prove that it's only a few months old.
Re: cutting mat is broken
That's crazy, take it back. I would write the company and provide a picture as well. They should know what happened, maybe it was a bad batch?
Re: cutting mat is broken
I agree with the others. I would take it back. I have an Olfa mat that is at least 5 to 10 years old and the only reason why I bought a new one is because I wanted it and I had a coupon from Joann's. The old one had a few grooves in it but it was still in good shape.
Re: cutting mat is broken
My original green mat lasted about 25yrs. It wasn't great for cutting fabric so much but got a second life as a craft mat for the kidds projects. The corners were breaking off and it was splitting bad a few years ago when my DD insisted it be thrown away(Mom, you already have a new one, this has got to go)
Re: cutting mat is broken
I have one hanging on my wall that I don't use because I bought it before I knew what to look for and it's not self healing. It has a lot of templates drawn on it so I'm going to get some template material and trace those templates and cut them out to use.
Re: cutting mat is broken
I have had my self healing mat for many years. It has a few grooves but still hanging in there. I use it all the time. I think you should return it also.
Re: cutting mat is broken
I have a tabletop size cutting mat that has to be 20+ years old. Never have seen this problem!
Re: cutting mat is broken
My mat is probably 10 years old and it's still in pretty good shape. If I were you I'd take the mat back and ask for a replacement or refund.
Re: cutting mat is broken
funny story:
I've had my little green mat for over 10yrs.. it the only one i've ever had.. (this is reminding me to buy me another one).. anywhooooooooooooo it was getting pretty worn.. but working ok... then the other day... i cut somehow with No fabric under a portion of the ruler!!! yikes... i slit the mat... pretty strong girl huh!! LOL
Re: cutting mat is broken
What a great idea, Shirley! I have self-healing mats and they are still going strong after many years of use. I also think they must be easier on the blades.

Re: cutting mat is broken
Thanks for your responses everyone. I probably can’t return my Fiskars cutting mat because I don’t have my receipt and Walmart probably won’t take it back. I’m going to do a warranty claim with Fiskars and see what happens. Even though I’m sad that my cutting board broke it might be a good think because I wanted to get an Olaf cutting mat.

You'll be happier with the Olfa mat! Let us know if you get any satisfaction from Fiskar's
Re: cutting mat is broken
I have had three olfa mats, would not use anything else. My original 24 x 18 is still going strong.
I did have an accident with my 24 x 36, I used my portable ironing board above it and the steam penetrated the wire mesh the board is made of, by the time I had realised what was happening the board had started to cockle.........I still have it, use it to cut paper on when I am making cards.
