longarmer mess up resolved
Hi everyone. I thought I would share some things about my recent post about a bad quilting job. I took the quilt to another longarmer who is very well respected here and also sells longarms, gives classes on them and her staff also know their stuff. There were several things wrong....the first was using a different color thread in the bobbin. The second was her tension on the top, or even both, was off. Third, quite a few of the loops were areas where she stopped and began. So, the owner showed me how to hide those loops...but in this case they were so bad, it didn't work. I ended up giving her the name of the person who did the work because she sold the woman her long arm and wants to get her in to fix the thing and also give her free lessons on how to properly start and stop.
Long story short...they are not charging me to rip everything out, charging me $5 a yd for new backing (which is pretty nice fabric) and will quilt it. I feel better about it, and I left a message to my friend so we can talk. I am going to pay her for her supplies, which I think is fair.
And no....I will not use her again. Even the owner, who knows this woman, couldn't understand why she did what she did. She thinks she just didn't know what to do. Anyway...just so you know.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
I'm glad to hear your quilt is going to be okay! What a terrible experience for you. You sound relieved that it is resolved.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
I am. I just will see if my friendship with this woman remains. I opened the door to her. We will see....
Well..it seems she was just as upset as I was and is going to pay for the backing, bring her machine in for repairs and take some classes to improve. She admitted she needs more practice.
Amen.
Thank you all for listening..
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
This seems like a very fair resolution to your problem. I'm glad it happened this way and glad your friend will get some help with her quilting technique! :)
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
I'm glad it all got resolved for you and that your friend is going to get help and instruction with her machine. If she plans to make money doing machine-quilting, she definitely needs to do this.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
I am so glad to hear that the situation has been resolved and you are going to get a beautiful quilt in the end.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
yes, this quilt will have many hands involved. It is being sent to Illinois to the owners mother, who does the ripping, and is 80 and loves doing it. She does hand quilting as well, but not so much anymore. Then she will mail it back and the work will begin.
If quilts could talk, just imagine what they would share.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
So glad to hear you got such a good resolution to the situation.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
The owner's Mother is a goddess to do the ripping. I love her.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
I'm so glad that this was worked out in a friendly way. Way to go!

hahaha! Yes she is!
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
it's just nice to know that some people will just admit when they have done wrong or made a mistake... and you are the better person for giving her the chance and for letting us know about her efforts... shows YOUR character...
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
Thank you. I think it became a win-win situation here. She is taking her work more seriously once again and the longarmer is going to teach me long arming so I can rent the macinine. Sometimes we all get lazy and slack in things we do and have to get back on track to take a moment to care.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
Well, that's one time when there's a happy ending! How great the long-armer is going to teach you to LAQ! I think it's terrific that one can rent these machines. It certainly makes a lot of sense. Those machines are so expensive. They might as well make some additional money letting folks rent them.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
So glad you got this resolved! What a terrible situation to have to deal with.
Enjoy learning LAQ!
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
This is my idea of a nightmare. My best friend bought a long arm 2 years ago. We have been practicing on our quilts ever since. We have done more than 40 between hers, mine and her brothers. We are just now starting to do quilts for pay from other people, because we were not satisfied with the quality of our work before. I would never be able to return a quilt in that condition at all, let alone expect to be paid for it.
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
Awhhhh YAY! For a happy ending! How frustrating tho. I mean so much work goes into these projects, to get it back in bad condition would have crushed my heart! I'm so happy for you and the positive !
Re: longarmer mess up resolved
I just hope when it is finally finished, that it will have some good karma!! Oy. I have to laugh, though...when I first bought the backing, it wasn't enough so I tried to make it work...which it didn't. Then I bought more backing, different, and then the quilting disaster. Now I will have the third backing...it gets sent to Illinois...then will go to New Jersey where the little girl lives. It was meant for someone else when I bought the fabric but didn't seem right for them. This child is meant for it. Phew!

Nice to hear this is getting resolved!
