I am getting ready to put together a baby quilt and I am doing a D9 design. This will be the first one I have done, so I'm having a mental issue. After I sew the 9 pieces together, do I square the block up then make my T cut? Help me please. Thanks!

I am new at this but i have made a d9 quilt and i did not square the nine patch first. I didt when the block was finished. It turned out ok. for my first attempt.

Thanks Swedish! I have done one block and before I do more I thought about it and was questioning it.

I squared up my 9-patch before I made the cut. It was easier for me that way. Do whatever you want to do, it's your quilt.
I am squaring mine up after I sew up the initial 9 patch, then I cut, sew up, then I check it again. They do not need much trimming.
I only square the block after sewing it together the second time.
Not necessary in my opinion, however, anything I make involving a triangle or bias-cut patches definitely needs to be squared up. It seems like no matter how careful I am piecing and pressing those babies they always need squaring up. I really don't understand why!
Here's a tip I use for my D9Ps...After I sew the large 9 patch I press the block in half and slice it in half along the pressed crease right at the ironing board with my sharp scissors and then fold both halves in half again, press and slice. No rotary cutter needed and easy peasey! Barb
