    Default Thoughts on Quilting pattern

    Hello-
I must say...I've just recently joined this forum and you all have been so friendly and helpful...thank you! I'm not very good at making decisions, so this quilt I'm working on has challenged this side of me. I'm making the Dresden Plate and Irish Chain, queen size. Just choosing the 16 fabrics for the plate was filled with doubts. Anyway...
I'm now on to the quilting, which many of you have helped me with this challenge. I am using a machine embroidery feathered wreath for the plate, which looks beautiful on the back too...
I'm a bit stuck on a design for the alternating chain block. I want it to look right on the back and compliment the wreath.
It doesn't have to be machine embroidered. I was thinking maybe a machine decorative stitch on the seams. ??? Any thoughts?...
    Thanks,
    Syndi

Sorry I don't have a suggestion just a question. Where did you get the feathered wreath pattern for your embroidery machine?

    Claire-
A women digitized it for me the size of the block- 12". I used the pattern and split it on my 5D Embroidery software. I have a 14X8 hoop so I need to hoop each plate block two times to get the full wreath. I then used a tutorial from this site for placement (she embroidered the design on stabiizer-I think the title was "How I Quilt"). There are many feathered wreath embroidery designs for sale on the web (I think McCalls quilting has a free one), but they weren't large enough. Do you embroider?

okay...picture wasn't clear enough to see the back threads of the feather quilt, so I guess you'll have to picture it in your mind.
    sorry...hope you can "picture" it.

Yes, I have used my embroidery machine to quilt three quilts now. I have not got a nice pattern for a feather wreath for my 5x7 hoop. I would love one that was in halves, I think so anyway. i have just downloaded something called Sophiesew which is an embroidery digitizing software [free for now] and perhaps I can create one but it will probably take me way longer than it is worth. I will try to find one, couldn't get anywhere on McCall's site.

    Claire-
It took me a few minutes to remember where is was...it's at Berina....this is the link. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the picture of the magazine. I don't remember the size. As I said, I used a large design and I also used a free feathered corner to finish off the block
    http://www.berninausa.com/news_detai...i1894-sUS.html
Also, If you have 5D embroidery extra software you can split a large design.
BTW....I also belong to sewforum.com (hope it's ok to post this link here) which there are many digitizers on that sight that give free designs or you can request one and maybe someone will digitize it for you.
    Hope this helps...

Thanks, I downloaded that but have not looked at it yet. I don't know enough about digitizing, yet to split the design, maybe someday. I also look at that other forum and have gotten several freebies from there. I hate to ask anyone to do a design for me, but I may try that. I have not decided whether to quilt my most recent top myself or have it done. I am thinking of putting in in the Alabama Quilt Symposium. They need lots of quilts to make it a really big shooow.;0]
I do have some corner designs I might could use.

You can use decorative stitches to quilt, however you may want to try a sample first, because not all of the decorative stitches look as good on the back side.
