Squares are shifting during sewing....
O.k. ladies...I had my first attempt at sewing squares this weekend. It wasn't too bad after I watched some of the tutorials. I bought a pre cut quilt kit for my first project so it would be a bit simplier the first time. I laid the squares right side together, pinned them, marked the 1/4 inch area since I don't have my 1/4 foot yet, then began sewing a straight stitch. So my question is, why are my pieces not matching up exactly at the end? It's as if the material is shifting during the sewing, but I've got it pinned well and I'm not sewing too fast....any suggestions???
Thanks so much!

Perhaps you need a even feed foot for your machine. Sewing machine feed dogs tend to pull the bottom fabric toward the back and the presser foot tends to push the top fabric towards the front and that makes them not line up. If you are using pre-cut fabric there must be a lot of pull/push on your machine to make just 5" not line up. Perhaps you could loosen the pressure on your presser foot a little.

Re: Squares are shifting during sewing....
I've just ordered and even feed foot today, so hopefully it will come soon. I'm pretty clueless about attachments and sewing items so I researched on the internet today. I hope I got the right one. I'm not sure how to loosen the pressure on my presser foot, but I will check my manuel to see. Thanks so much for the tips!
