Default Hand-look Machine Stitch & How to Apply

I have a hand-look quilt stitch on my machine and I LOVE the way it looks! I just wondered where and how I would use this stitch (for you hand-quilters). Do I use it to actually quilt a quilt or only as a decoration in places or along seams or around applique, etc. If you could explain its application that would be great! I can't wait to try it in a project. Thank you. (and please ignore my nasty practice sandwich meanders!)

Angie, you're soo lucky to have this stitch! I'm no longer a hand stitcher, but if I had this stitch I would, at the very least, use it on long straight lines. I'm soo envious!

I bookmarked this quilt a couple weeks ago because I liked how she had the hand stitching in the sashings. Your machine stitch would work perfectly.

Also, there are some examples here

That is a really cool machine stitch. Still wondering how the machine does it.

wish my machine had a stitch like that, I love the way handstitching looks, but don't do much handquilting any more...I'm all about getting large blocks of a quilt done in one sitting...can't do that with handquilting.

just use it to quilt along side the seams...

I will have to try that out. My machine has one but I have never used it. Did you use a walking foot? Is that varigated thread in your bobbin or the top thread?

Claire, I just used the F foot recommended by the manual. I don't know if it would work with a wf...I will try and let you know. The variegated thread is the top thread (I just threw it on there because my sandwich is white).

This is the same stitch my BabyLock Sashiko machine makes. I can adjust the length of the stitch and the space between stitches...it's awesome, but it was really expensive for making only one stitch!

Snipping the thread in between will be a bit time consuming but probably FAR quicker than hand-stitching a whole quilt!

That is so pretty and I love your thread. I really like the look of the stitch and since I'm looking at quilting machines maybe I'll see what I can find with that stitch.

I have that stitch too, I did a small practice piece, did the snipping of jump thread...said no way to a lap quilt. LOL
