can you sew together two battings to make one big one?

I probably won't get this for about a week, I ordered thru Ebay, and I'll let everyone know what I think about it.

Yes, I butt my pieces together then zig zag and quilt right over them and have never had any trouble. I have put as many as six pieces together to make a big quilt, once quilted you can not tell where it was joined. I don't like to throw anything away.

thank you all for the ideas. unfortunatly for me i didn't get to the quilt i had to bring my 2 year old son to er. and they admitted him...too bad i don't have a portable sewing machine!!! still sitting in hospital but at least my hubby went and brought my laptop!!! croup with a double ear infection and strep throat. this sucks....

Hope your son feels better pretty soon. I know what that is, we have 3 children too (all over 31 now) but Boris, our son had croup too and lots of times along with one infection or other. Good luck!

thank you!!!! we are now home but now i have two sick kids!! :) but the baby is better, still haveing a hard time breathing, but my five year old has the cauphing and stuff too. but i get to disinfect everything today!!! fun stuff.

I use the heat fuser tape and it works like a CHARM!

I have used both the zig zag method and the heat fuser tape. Both work great. The fuse is nice but pulls a bit when stretched on the long arm.

The tape used is called Heat Press Batting Together and is available at almost all quilting stores and online sites...Connecting Threads has it.
I have been taking the Craftsy classes by Ann Peterson. She has two coarses "Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine" and "Beyond Basic Machine Quilting". She is such a good teacher so easy to understand and like our Jenny she likes to use things around the house rather than buy something. When joining pieces of batting together, she suggests to cut it in a large wave cut. Then either baste it or Heat Press Tape it together. She shows this in the split binding session for FMQ a large quilt in pieces.

I sew my pieces together all the time....no problem. I do make a lot of placemats, table runners and holiday banners. I especially use the pieces for these projects because they don't get the same wear as a quilt. However I do save my larger pieces for the quilts and because I tend to quilt very close together.....I have NEVER had a problem...when I sew mine together I use my multi-stitch zig zag stitch..... I only use warm and natural batting....
