    Default Binding using multiple fabrics?

I just wondered if it's a no-no to make binding from several different fabrics (scrappy binding???)? I am almost ready to bind the 16-Patch quilt. I originally purchased extra backing material to make the binding but now I'm thinking a contrasting binding would be nice (as per the pattern). I have so much leftover fabric, but not enough of one colour. Do people ever make binding from several fabrics or would that look kind of weird and chaotic, distracting from the quilt? Thanks for opinions!

I do it all the time.... i do prefer though stitching together on an angle, rather than up and down... gives a nice look... hummmmmmm, but looking at your quilt... your 16 patch blocks are so perfect, it might follow suit stitching them straight... this is a super quilt... love the choice of gold/yellow as your sashing...

Yes, I would use the multiple patterned pieces you have left. I would, however, make sure they are all the same size so the binding looks as if it was definitely planned that way. (Does that make sense?)
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

Sandy...so you mean the lengths of each colour in the binding should be equal (ie. 8 inches of red, then 8 inches of blue, etc.)?

I love the idea of a multiple color binding! I had that thought for my granddaughter's quilt but it may be too busy, I'll have to think on it some more. I think you could cut the lengths either all uniform or random lengths as long as there are really no short ones where it looks choppy.

Exactly - can you tell I hadn't had enough coffee before I posted!

I can't respond to your poll, because I do a little of each, depending on my mood, the quilt, and if I want a scrappy or more planned look. I tend to go toward scrappy, and don't make the pieces all one length. But I do agree with what Sandy said, since your quilt is very "organized" looking, a more organized approach to the binding would look better. I like the idea of using the colors in your quilt in same size pieces for the binding, that way you get the randomness of color, but the precision of size. It looks soooo good, I'm not sure if I could sew small squares carefully enough to make a quilt like that. I'm working on that aspect of my piecing.

I like the look of multiple fabrics in a binding. What i don't like is sewing them all together. there is always at least one I sew the wrong way no matter how careful I am.
