Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Just finished up this top. A baby quilt for our next little one.

Here's a close up of a block

and the center applique

I usually know pretty quick how I want to quilt but this one has me stumped. Do I want to do a small design inside each square? The squares are 4 1/2" and 3 1/4", and the smallest ones with sashing are 1". Should I just quilt around the squares? What to do with that 2" outside border? I'm thinking I'll just use white thread. The back will be a light turquoise so white should look good top and bottom...right?
Any ideas?
P.S. Wow - these pictures are posting exceptionally large in size, sorry.

Baby Breahna's sweet quilt is sure to experience much loving. Quilting will turn it into a beauty!
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Congratulations on your new little one. And such a beautiful quilt to welcome her with. No idea how to quilt it though, sorry.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I love this pattern! You did a great job! In my opinion, since it's all squares, I'd do something curvy, maybe loops or simple meandering. Something that would reflect the swirls in the fabric print perhaps?
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
What an adorable little quilt! I think I'd use a easy heart meander over the whole top to quilt it. It would be sweet and simple.
Congrats on the new baby! When do you get to meet her face to face?
Cyndi
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Thank you all for you love. I love the meandering ideas. I'm terrible at FMQ on my little sewing machine so I think I'll try it by hand ... we'll see how it goes
She's supposed to be here first week in June - I better get quilting because that time will be here before I know it!
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
If you are doing the quilting by hand why not try a chunkier thread and a curvy motif on each block instead of a meander. I love hand quilting with chunky, bright colored thread.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Sweet, sweet, sweet. Love the way your applique turned out. That red really sets it off. I agree with Summer about the quilting, too. Thanks for sharing the finished top.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
It turned out wonderful - and congrats!
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I'm new to quilting so I haven't any suggestions but I just wanted to tell you this is absolutely the most adorable baby quilt I have ever seen. What a lucky baby!
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I totally love what you did with this it is so pretty!!!! I know whatever you decide to do you will do an awesome job!
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I would quilt a design on the outside cream border (maybe flowers similar to the center block on a vine).
Single large flower on each of the eight outside blocks.
The center block has me stumped - maybe quilt around the name and the flower.
Stitch in the ditch around the thin flowered border.
Very pretty quilt -baby Breahna is a lucky little girl.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I love your quilt. I love how you have incorporated beautiful reds in this baby quilt! ALL the colours look so well together! My daughter likes the idea of red for her new baby girl but I don't have the eye to put all the fabrics together like you did!
Congratulations on your upcoming arrival!
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Beautiful quilt. The first thing that popped into my mind was the same as Cyndi's. A meandering HEART pattern. But I know whatever you decide will make it even more beautiful.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Love this quilt... colors and pattern.. is something you designed or a pattern??
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
Oh goodness this is beautiful! wonderful job
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
This is all copied from a pattern. I am all about using someone else's creativity :-)

...down to the two charm packs of Ruby fabric.
MSQC has a Jelly Roll but I didn't see charm packs

I'm looking into prices to have it sent to a quilter. Debating if I would feel guilty since her brothers got theirs all hand done. It's 44" square and I found someone who charge 1.5 cents a square inch so it's almost worth it to not spend the time to do it myself.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
another thought from me:
I found this idea on a quilting stencil website

I think that is so cute!

Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I knew this was going to turn out to be beautiful!! I would quilt it with something swirly or meandering. You have enough corners in the piecing and something swirly or rounded would be a nice contrast. It's lovely and I can't wait to see it completed! Great job! Barb
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
I am impressed!
A beautiful quilt and I'm sure your sweet baby will love it too.
I'm with Summer too..... sounds like great advice to me.
Re: Quilting Idea - Baby Quilt
