Jelly Roll quilt question...
I just made the 1600" jelly roll quilt and I'm going to do a second one, can additional strips be added to make it longer & wider? I've ordered a jelly roll but if I can make it larger I want to order a 2nd one. Thanks http://im-smiley.com/imgs/happy/happy022.gif
Re: Jelly Roll quilt question...
it will only make it longer not wider cause you still only have what the length of each strip is....
Re: Jelly Roll quilt question...
could you make it in shorter sections... then stitch them together for a different width???? just a thought!!!!
then the lines would be vertical... yet another look!!!! WOW,,, by brain is hurting!!

I thought about vertical - wonder what that would look like.
But this was what I was thinking *OMG this could be dangerous* is that if I used 2 jelly rolls once I get all 3200" done....do the first long seam - then just do as many long seams as I need for the width I want...this probably doesn't make sense to anyone but me and then I'm beginning to wonder if I even understand myself.
The only other thing I can think of is just sewing the strips together (as many as needed for width) then sewing the long strips together - one at a time. I'm not in a race with anyone so I can take all the time I need.

I just read JEAN SEWING MACHINE's blog on how she made her quilt into a queen size!! It looks gorgeous and not that difficult to do...I am new to this website so I am not sure how to link you to her post, but maybe you can look her up?
I found it again!

I have seen a pattern on Etsy, that looks like they use 38 of the strips as in the jelly roll race, then slice it into thirds lengthwise, then using the remaining strips they piece the strips between the cuts, making it wider by at least 4 inches, then you would also have the border if you decided to put one on.

Thanks - I'll do that
Re: Jelly Roll quilt question...
I think I figured out how to make it any width you want. You can add extra strips to the bottom once you sew the 32 rows to make it longer. I kind of overdid the length thing on my first attempt, it is 97" long by 84" wide. It is 40 rows long and took about 62 strips. I used extra strips for part of my border. See my blog www.soooowht.blogspot.com for thw specific directions for making it a specific width.

Every time I write it down, I have to refigure out how to do it! Width of quilt x 32divided by length of each strip equals number of strips. Never thought I'd be making up a math formula, not my strong suit, by any means!
