    Default tote bag question

    Hi everyone,
I am making the easy quilted tote bag from this site. I have my charms sewn to the bottom piece and pinned the batting to the back of them, now it says to machine quilt. There is no lining at this point and am confused as to how to quilt in simple lines like I plan, without the lining on the back yet. Thanks for any direction you can give. Nancy

best way for me and as a beginner.. would be "presser foot's width" from all seams... vertical and horizontal... i think you'd like that..and if you have a "walking foot" it keeps things from puckering.. if not.. jus try to stitch alternately... from top to bottom, bottom to top... etc.. can't wait to see it done...

Nancy, pretend that lining is there and just quilt it like you would anything else...you'll just have the batting on the bottom instead of the lining.

For the actual tote, you only have the top and the batting. (I did a couple with a backing too). Quilt it whichever way you want. And then you do the lining last. Hope this helps.

Nancy Ellen - WELCOME to the forum. I can tell you are a lurker. Come on in and let us get to know you better. Pull up a chair.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I like using muslin as the backing of my totes...it is cheap and thin and gives a bit more sturdiness to the tote...no interfacing needed! After quilting, I line the bag. I do the same thing when making quilted pillow tops.
