    Default Somerset Patchwork

Curious to try this out, has anyone done Somerset Patchwork at all? I love that it raised and full of texture rather than flat patchwork.
To anyone who has tried it a question, does the inside of the folded sides not fray at all? I know it is inside the folded triangle but just wondering.

    Ta muchly!

I think the edges are glued or hidden so that there shouldn't be any fraying.. but check out this site and tutorial.. Might answer your questions and let everyone know what we are talking about..

Thanks for posting that link judy! I didn't know it had a name. I've made these potholders in the past but it's been quite a long time ago. There are no exposed edges to worry about.

I love it, particularly because it is round [and Christmas].

Thanks Granny Judy and Rebeccas-sewing, I shall have a bash then! Let you know how it goes.

The book I looked at first was not very useful and didn't explain quite how to make the rectangles properly, hence my worry about edges fraying, that tute was most helpful Judy, now I see EXACTLY what I need to do.

I'm so glad to get this pattern again. My mother made these in the 90's, I copied this and put it in a jumper as a focal point in the bodice--I always got comments when I wore it. I forgot how to make it and Mom has been gone for 15 years, so I can't ask her! I also didn't know what you called it, thanks for the post.

Mother and her sister made them as wall hangings and used embroidery hoops with ribbon glued on the edges instead of binding them. We all got them for Christmas gifts, but it is long gone from my Christmas collection.

Yeah I like how fun they look. I like Suffolk puffs(yo-yos) too. ANything that adds a bit of 3D to a thing is good in my book!
