Absolutely followup on the "workshop" concept and having a "creative outlet" that keeps you happy! I know I don't need quilts just to have something to throw on a bed...that's not at all what it is about for me. SO if your hubby is thinking a quilt only has a "functional" purpose you should educate him on the concept of satisfying your creative soul and the joy that brings into your life. If your retirement home renovations are intended to make your golden years happier, hold your ground on getting a special sewing space you can call your own! It sounds like your hubby just needs to understand more how much quilting means to you! I bet he won't give you any grief about your sewing room especially if he has his own project areas.
