Exclamation Need help Stitch in the Ditch on this quilt....What pattern do I travel?

I have this quilt all ready to SITD..however...I need advise on how to do it to this design. I know "how" to SITD, but with all the squares and triangles and "ditches"....what is the best way to do it on this design? I know about the part of doing one row down, and the next row up so as to keep the fabric in line and all that, and start from inside and work way outward. But...that is how I did the center design, and have to many thread ends, starts, stops.

If I start at the top of the quilt and sew down the main row sides...then go side to side...okay, but then I have to do the inside ditches where the squares and tri's are and that can bunch. But if I start from the inside I still have all the stops/starts threads. Frankly, my thread matches so exactly (first time for everything!) and my walking foot does so well, I can hardly tell where I have stitched when looking on the front! I want to ahve as few thread ends as possible, but can't figure a pattern to travel to get each ditch!

So...anyone have suggestions or advise on how to Stitch in the Ditch this quilt? I have included a pic of the full quilt and a close up of the squares/tri's block. I also plan to Stipple in the large brown squares between the 5 stripes...so if you have any suggestions on that I'd appreciate it too. And maybe stipple the center square on each block.

I've just started machine quilting and have only done one wall hanging. This has so many pieces! I think you may need to pick and choose what areas you want to stitch around and not do every piece. For inside the block area, you could do it in this order without breaking a thread:
    Example:
    1. stitch across the top of the big blue square going to the right,
    2. then stitch the right/top triangle,
    3. then the right side of the square,
    4. then the right/bottom triangle,
    5. then the bottom of the square,
    6. then the left/bottom triangle,
    7. then the left side of the square,
    8. then lastly, the left/top triangle.

Then you could go around either the inside or the outside of the brown border of each block

Then maybe you could choose to SITD the light brown squares with the connecting flowered strips in only one direction, either vertically or horizontally. I think I would go with the length of the quilt.

From there I have no idea! Hope this helps in some insane way! Can't wait to see what you decide. Good luck...you've got your work cut out for you!

Oh, and I just thought... I don't know if you use a walking foot for doing SITD, but I saw a Leah Day video where she does SITD with a free motion foot so she doesn't have to turn her quilt a lot. Just a thought.

    BTW, your quilt is beeeeauuutiful!

Well it has given me some thought! This is my first time at something like this. I was proud of myself for getting it all as even as it is! Didn't think about STID when I was assembling it! I saw that video too and thought..wonder if she forgot or something as she didn't say anything about it...the walking foot for FMQ. I thought it odd to, but it worked..I wonder if there is a reason she did that or not? I did think...briefly...about FMQing it, but I am not that good at that having just learned and I want the stitching on the back to be really good as it is a solid brown back and every little stitch is going to show so I thought I'd best practice a bit more on FMQ before I do something that obvious. But thanks for the steps..... maybe I am trying to do to much.

You start in the bottom left corner of the block (brown triangle)go to the right tip of the block then to the top of the triangle move over to the blue side, go down blue triangle then up to top of triangle, move over to the flower print box, move down to the bottom of the brown box, move along the bottom to the right to the corner, move up to the top of the brown rectangle, then to the left to the left edge of brown rectangle, up to flowered rectangle, right to right corner of flower rectangle, up to the corner of flower triangle, right to blue triangle corner down to point, up blue triangle to other point, move over to brown triangle, down to the left point, across the bottom of brown triangle, up right side of triangle, then all the way across the top to the left then move up to next row to brown rectangle then do the same process over again. I think it is up the wall down the wall across the floor , up the wall down the wall across the floor etc for each block till you get all the way across and moved up to each floor. After you get to the top floor and have came back across you go down the left side of the block on each row to finish. No stop and starts. Hope that helps.
