2nd question (sorry two for one here)......I bought a cone of thread and a stand for my machine and it works great. I was wondering which one was stronger.....spool or cone thread? I know the cone has longer pieces of the spun cotton then the spool but not sure if one is actually stronger then the other?
You know those little sponge tip paint brushes you buy at the paint stores? Put your pounce powder in a zipper plastic bag and use one of the sponge brushes dipped in the bag. Rub you brush over the stencil and there you have it. Save yourself ten bucks and get the sponges for a buck.

As for thread well, in my opinion, they would both be the same. Some FMQ people say they like the cone better some like a spool. But if you are FMQ it is better to have your spool or cone in a stand because it gives a better tension for the thread. I haven't tried the stand yet so I can't say personally. Likely it's a matter of personal preference. I'd say try both and see what you think.
