I've seen people use the satin-like blanket binding. Sandy has used it and said she liked it when I asked her about it. I've never seen anyone use it as a border though. Satin is normally dry clean only, I wouldn't want to mix that with cotton fabrics and sort of doubt it would hold up well in a quilt.
