Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
Needless to say i have "more than a few" Charm Packs in the sewing room... they are my favorite deal,, i plan to use them with other prints, or solids... So.... here's my question... do any of you have a favorite way to use them? I work best when i see what others have done, or listen to ideas from other people... then i can get creative... So.... Any ideas... i'd love to see or hear..
Thanks, Barbara

I love pinwheels and using the 5" tumbler. I have a picture of the tumbler quilt I made in my gallery. I even did the border w/ the tumbler. Have fun!!!

Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I really enjoyed working with the Sugar Pop line and I made a D9P quilt from it...Etchings is one of my current favorites. I have a new one called Papillon, but haven't done anything with it yet, but it looks dreamy! :)
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
Just recently I've discovered that they work up well in hourglass blocks and I found a quick and easy way to put them together.
I'm putting aqua charms with the Primitive musling charms; they come in shades of weathered looking muslins, from the usual offwhite to the tans and light browns. Since they are the 5 inch size already they come out just the right size when sewn to pair up with 9 patches made up using 2 1/2 inch squares. I've come across several patterns that pair those two blocks. What I found was in my old stash of magazines, but I'm sure they are still "out there."
Some of the charms are from Kashmir II that is OOP but there are similar ones still being sold using paisleys.
Enjoy! Brenda in Bama
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
My favorite use for them is Dresden Plates. One charm pack makes a 3-block tablerunner. I love the D9P for charms. All of the tablerunners in my albums are made with charms. I have plans to use them for applique and small wallhangings. I'm really looking forward to using them for an x's and o's baby quilt.
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I just bought three of the "Make do and Mend it" charm packs. I'm going to be making a tote bag out of them that will be used for one of the quilt clubs that I'm a member of. I have the 12 days of Christmas charm packs that I'm going to be doing a "Take 5 goes to Charm School" I have some that I'm going to be doing quilts out of just not sure what yet. I love the ones like Hoopla, and any of them that have bright cheery colors in them.
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I love them all! :) I love the ability to be able to sit down and get the instant gratification of making something without always having to do all the cutting prior to starting especially if I want to make small gifts for people around holiday time.
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
One of my favorites is from Moda bakeshop:http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/05/...aby-quilt.html.
I was even able to get a "bonus" baby quilt from the leftovers!

Rather than trimming the squares down 1/4 I would have just made my sashing strips 5 inches wide. Trimming them makes no sense to me either.

I'm with you there. To me that's a waste of fabric. You could achieve the same look without cutting 1/4 inch off
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I didn't trim any off, it sounded like a waste to me too. I think the creator wanted to get rid od the pinking-at least that's how it seemed to me. Some people are bothered by it. i sewed the charms at their original size and adjusted the sashing length accordingly.
I took the leftover squares and pieces from the sashing, added white and made a little pinwheel quilt.
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I like the tumbler pattern and DP9. They are easy and fun, and look great.
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I had no idea what you guys were talking about...had to go back and look a couple of times...I just did my first tumbler with my charms package and love it!
I am glad I did not see that site...I just left the little pinking edges on--double cutting? no way!
I came here to lurk and find more charms patterns as I think I might have a new addiction to them...I hate it when the daily deal is a charm pack, because I am compelled to buy it and a few more! But, I am going to try and not buy until I actually know what I am going to make with it...I need to destash or else, I will be in the S. A.B.L.E. club for a long long time! (stash accumulated beyond life expectancy) :D
I think I am going to try the DP9 next!!!
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I can relate... i think i am the president of that club,,, a lifetime member... i actually moved 9 yrs. ago and have a wall of fabric, without a big dent in it... but hey... i'm sober, don't smoke and stay home a lot... LOL
I too want to try the tumbler...
ps... i am a nut for the DD... today i bought the book and a layer cakes (gotta make the 5 bucks count..LOL0
here's my trick.... buy the DD charm etc.. then keep a list and buy again or when reduced... i'm building up a collection, and helping the MSQC get their new location "ship shape"....:) My pleasure.... hugs B
Re: Do you have a favorite "charm pack" pattern??
I took the x's and o's pattern for the block and laid them out differently and loved the look.....had them all point in the same direction in rows and it made a cute table topper...I used white little squares and the charm pack Farmer's Market...came out really cute!
