    Lightbulb Strips longer than 44"...

If I am making a quilt and it takes strips longer than 44"...where do I make a seam to make a strip longer than 44"?

Not too close to either end. It is better to have two pieces left over than have one little piece joined to the end of a longer one.

Definitely don't put it in the middle. I usually put it somewhere between middle and end. I think it's less noticeable. If it's a large print I match the pieces as I'm cutting out the strips so there's no break in the pattern of the fabric. I don't miter the pieces. I cut straight across. By the time the quilting is done, I never find my eye travelling to those joins. It's almost like they disappear. Now on solid borders I'm not so sure about those. I rarely use solid fabric in borders. When I know I'm going to have to piece a border I take that into consideration and always select a print. I'd like to hear what others do to make those joins less obvious when using solids.

I add the extra strip by mitering it. I think that it lays so much better. I think it looks better whether it is solid or print---or maybe it is just because that is the way it was taught to me. I try to do it not to close to either end. I use to freak out about it in the beginning--now it happens all the time so it is business as usual with me.Good luck with it.
I am such a material girl!!!!! Nena
