I am actually gathring my fabric right now for a D9P as well. I am doing the Red, White & Black colors. All of my center squares are black/black or black/white. Then I am going to alternate how I do the rest if the 4 corners are red then the other four pieces are white and vice versa. I have choosen to go with red/black pattern, red/white pattern, white/red pattern & white with black pattern. Then I think I am going to do a black border with red binding. I used some pieces from a charm pack and then scraps for the rest. I still need more pieces though so im looking for some fat quarters so i can finish up and start sewing.
