marking tool for dark fabric
I usually use the Pilot Frixon pen to mark my fabrics. When you iron it the lines totally disappear on light fabrics. I love it, but I've noticed that it leaves a light colored residue on darker fabrics. I'm marking a design on the center squares of my wall hanging which are medium to dark prints. I don't want to wash my whole wall hanging when I'm finished, but need something to mark the designs. Does anyone have a favorite marking tool that will work well for marking a small design from a template, show up on dark fabric, and will EASILY wipe off with a damp cloth. I'm going to FMQ it (and I'm not very good at it) so I need something that can be seen easily as I quilt. Thanks! Here's a pic again so you can see the colors.Attachment 15041

hoping others respond, wonderful quilt top !!
Re: marking tool for dark fabric
Im not sure if you are suppose to use this or not but I used a color pencil that was a yellow/cream color because I couldn't find my fabric pen.
Re: marking tool for dark fabric
Some people use a thin sliver of soap. I have also used a white/light colored pencil to mark. I've never had any problems washing it out but i don't know how well it would just wipe off.
Your wallhanging looks great.

Chalk? That's all I can think of if you don't want to wash it.
Re: marking tool for dark fabric
This is what I use. It comes in different colors to show up on your fabrics. I've never had any trouble getting it out.

Chalk is about your only choice if not washing. Only mark one section at a time. You may lose some of your lines if you mark the whole quilt at one time.
Re: marking tool for dark fabric
A dear friend gave me a wonderful quilting pen/pencil type thing called Bohin from France. It works like a mechanical pencil, but uses very thin white chalk pieces as refills. It is excellent for marking quilts---especially dark fabrics. It brushes off easily, but most importantly it makes a very narrow and accurate line. Not sure where to find it....look on here...maybe LQS. Good luck!

I use either a white/silver marking pencil, or a welders soap stone. You can find the soap stones in the tool section of Home Depot around the welding equipment. They come in round or square and they have a holder for which ever shape. I use the round ones because that is what my Husband and father in law gave me. Chalk would work just as good.
Good Luck.

I just got a neon green frixion pen - I was told it will need a little residue after ironing, but that it will wash out easily.. didn't try it yet... ;)
