Question Help...Battle Hymn Charm pak, not what I needed...partly anyway....

I plan on making my Deputy Sheriff son a quilt for his new home and bought the Battle Hymn charm packs here and also a 5", 1/2hexi and a 5" tumbler templates to create it with. I got the charm packs today and was a bit dissapointed in them. The colors are great...dark reds/blues/greens/greys and bought the dark muslin CP too for the solid accents. Perfect for that "historical americana" look (he is also a Civic War buff) But what dissapointed me was that there is only 1 pattern with flags....and that is the only historical/americana theme in the pack. The rest of the pieces are great colors, but leaves, and floral images. I wanted something more masculine...the reason I thought Battle Hymn would be the perfect theme. I did look at them on the site, and it didn't look like so much floral patterns but they are.

So... I know I can find other uses for the more floral patterns (they are beautiful), so no prob there, but...does anyone know of any other CHarm paks that have a masculine, historical, patriotic even military-ish theme to them...with these same color schemes...dark brownish reds, blues, greens etc? OR even if I can get some fat quarters, I can cut them to size.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Just a thought here.... why just get 1/2 yd. off a bolt, Cut the yardage into strips and then cut your hexie's and tumbler. Yes I know that is alot of cutting but you would get what you want. kellie.

Coffee Break, Kelli's suggestion is perfect, you can supplement your charm packs with a fabric that will repeat throughout the quilt. I've cut my own strips and used my tumbler template. It worked very well.

Thanks you guys...yeah I thought about that, but I was just thinking maybe if I could find charm paks and not have to cut since, no matter how hard and careful I try...they never come out right and since I have just gotten "into" charm packs, I was hoping I could use just them. I usually do just buy fabric off the bolt and do all the cutting. I was just getting tired of that. But oh well... a mother's work is never done....unless anyone else has an idea...off to the fabric store I go!

I thought I saw a Heritage charm pack that was masculine.. it had alot of light & darks in it.... Not sure about the colors now. would have to go take another look.
