    Default Dutch Quilt.....

    I'm going to the USA!!!!!

In about 10 weeks I'll go to Atlanta!
I will visit a friend of ours, who lost her husband in a carcrash 3 weeks ago, so I'm going to help and pamper her as much as I can those 10 days I'll be there!!

    Now my quilting question!

I am planning on making her a dutch quilt, she loves Holland.
How much fabric should I get, and what is a fast and nice pattern for it (I'm thinking lapsize quilt)?
The dutch fabris is always big pattern fabric, with lots of dolls, windmills, tulips etc.......
If I'm going to make a D9P or another X & O pattern how many different fabrics should I use?

Thursday there is market again, so I will go and look for fabric, I have 10 weeks left so it should not be a problem...........

Hope you all can help me out here!!

    Hugs,
    Klasien

Hey great news about your trip, I'm excited for you!

If you do a DP9 I am not sure how it would work with a big pattern, you don't want to cut up any cute windmills or tulips! What about fussy cutting some squares for a rag quilt? That way you can keep the images intact.

ps. I am sure it will be a comfort to her that you're there, I bet she'll love anything you make for her Klasien!

I just looked at your mug rugs and that little girl in blue looked rather "dutch". Maybe something with that design. Other than that...I come up blank! Good luck tho!

I have a couple beautiful Dutch coasters here - the colors on them would be fabulous for a lap quilt!! You could easily do a rag quilt and add some solids - I'm thinking red, yellow and blue to bring home the true colors of Holland when the tulips start blooming. You could make your squares as large as 8-10 inches and it would sure go together quick. Also, since Atlanta is pretty much in the south, you wouldn't need a lot of batting (if any) and they don't need to be bound. That would make it lighter weight for traveling since you may have excess baggage and/or weight.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

    Hallo Klasien,

How about an over-sized X & O where the white block is a fuzzy cut of a theme, say different tulips, windmills, or canal scenes. Below is a picture, I think I have the pattern for a queen size quilt.

Your Xs could be done in different Delft Tile or Hindelope style fabrics.

I'm sure you'll pick some cute materials, you have a great eye!

On a DP9 you could use 4 different fabrics in the squares that don't get sliced. a smaller print in the 4 middle pieces that do and maybe a darker color for the center square that gets cut into 4.

i would do a D9P in three colours. Largest print in the 4 courners, dark toner in the middle and then the 'inbetween' square a mid tone. i have recently been using this combination in borders and i love it. If you dont 'mix em up' but keep all the blocks in the same direction and just repeated it looks absolutely elegant.

I think that this I Spy D9P could be what you need to think about. I used the idea and found it very helpful and lots of fun to make.
She gives directions of how to set the featured squares so that when they are turned the subject will be upright. Her list for materials also is helpful. Good luck.
