Battle Hymn charm pak...need ideas!

I just bought the Battle Hymn charm packs (2) and solids to go with it. I want to make a quilt for my son who is a Civil War, WWII buff since he was in high school. Now, as a Sheriff's Deputy, he is still as patriotic as ever and will love this theme. He is (hopefully) buying his first house after a divorce and I want to have this done as a "house warming" gift for him.

Any ideas of a pattern/design for the quilt with these charm packs? I know I can just sew the charms together, but I want to do more than that. I am new to triangles and small squares, but have learned alot, but putting them together...a beginner at the moment. I would love to do something with the half hexi template, but no one carries it by here at MSQC and it is out of stock and has been at least for the couple weeks I have been looking for it (since I saw Jenny's tutorial about using it for friendship braid) And a friendship braid for the sashing is not out of the question...I love that pattern...so...if you have ever used this charm pak theme or have any ideas... please let me know. Takes me longest to create the pattern than it does to actually make it, so I"d appreciate any help! Thanks!

Have you check out Jenny's pinwheel tutorial? It might work for the Battle Hymn material.

I have that material in the Jelly Roll and am doing a log cabin Block of the Month quilt with it.

What about the tumbler template? It's a little different than just sewing the charms together. If you want to make the half hexi, I have that template from MSQC. If you'd like it please pm me with your address and I'll ship it to you. I just finished a quilt for my adult son -- it was neat to make something that he'd really like -- I'm taking it to the quilter this weekend.

The tumbler is another one I want and they are out of stock! I want it the charm pak size to be able to use it with the charm paks. I'll pm you about it. THanks!
