    Default Design questions

Has anyone here designed a quilt? I've got an idea for one and can figure out most of it, but not all.

Also, does anyone know where I can find fabric that looks like stained glass? Something with movement and color variations but not necessarily a print.

Well, I've designed my own before, 2 t-shirt quilts I made from my grand daughters. I am not into (although starting to learn!) the small squares etc, but I just cut the front of the t's 9" sq and appliqued them onto a 12" block and then just made sashing 4" between all blocks. A pic is in my profile. THe other one I am ready to do the binding on is same...just in purples.

Another one I have the top done, just have to start the layering...I found a picture with pattern/instrucitons on a site... and although I didnt' like the finished quilt (just way to busy!) I did like the block design. So I made 12, 8" blocks, and then made the sashings of 5" and alternated the 3 different fabrics/patterns in 1" strips so sashing were 5x8. I will do a picture, but it sure did turn out really nice..especially for my first attempt at such a thing. I find it hard to follow a pattern exactly. don't know why. But I just take the gasics and then embellish and change as I want to.

Another tip.. do as you ahve done...toss in them questions to the rest of us and get some feedback. Good luck

Tfrankum, thank you SO MUCH for the offer. Would it be possible to get an email address for you? That way I can send you a picture of what I'm trying to accomplish, along with a very rough design. Thanks!

Try batiks for the stain glass look. Also, there is a iron on "tape" that can be used for the leading. It comes in a lot of colors including metalics. The only downside is that it is on the expensive side.

I just designed one using graph paper and markers! For my first time...turned out good and I have a better idea of what I want to do!
