(see what I mean? Everywhere I go, thinking and wondering the same things I do!)
Re: What thread do you use?
I use my 1/4" foot and Aurifil 100% cotton thread in the 50wt. for piecing. But I have discovered over the years to use what you want to use there is no right or wrong answer in quilting. Just have fun! ;)
Re: What thread do you use?
I really like Connecting Threads 50 weight 100 Percent Egypian Cotton $2.19, I think there's about 1700 yards of thread on a spool. They have sales on a regular basis and also kits with color groups where you get a price break.
Even my serger likes it. lol Now my Brother, Viking and Singer do not like Coat or other cheap thread 'cause they have a lot of fuss and lumps to them.
Just my humble opinion...your mileage may vary...
Re: What thread do you use?
I'm learning about this also. I just did a walking foot for the first time ever...and did straight stitch on each side of the seam...the backing was fleece. I didn't notice a difference between this way and using the regular all purpose foot that I used when I did this same quilt couple months ago, just different colors. The walking foot diddn't seem to do any different for pulling the fabric layers through any better. But .... I will continue to use it as that is what it is for and might be helpful to the machine that I dont' see.
THread... I use cotton covered Polyester thread. I had a repair man tell me YEARS ago that it was best for controling the fluff from thread around the bobbin cage. Since starting back quilting.. I am going to look into a speciality quilting thread. I can watch for the half price sales and get it affordablely. I want these things to hold up and I think it might be helpful to the machine as far as stitching that many layers if the thread is stronger...I think...anyone know about that?
Re: What thread do you use?
I use the Egyptian cotton 50 weight thread from Connecting Threads. There are 1200 yards on each spool and the threads comes in almost every color imagineable. I like the amount of thread on these spools because normally I can piece a whole quilt with one spool (including bobbin fill-ups). I use neutral colors to piece my tops...cream, gray or black if needed. The price is always right and from time to time they have 40% off sales and that's when I really stock up! Hugs, Barb
Re: What thread do you use?
I like the 50 wt egyptian as well.
The only thing I have discovered with my machine is that it works best when both threads are the same wt. It may not make a difference for you but my babylock (when she is at home) prefers a good quality thread with matching upper and bobbin.
I also use a 1/4 inch foot most of the time.
Re: What thread do you use?
I use Mettler 50 wt cotton for piecing and my 1/4 inch foot. I have a Pfaff and it likes the top and bottom tread to match, just works so much better for me.
Re: What thread do you use?
I use my 1/4" foot when piecing, and 50 wt Egyptian Cotton thread. 1200 yd spools, most of the time I use neutral colors.

Re: What thread do you use?
This is an interesting "thread," (lol) I am watching it to see what I can learn. I've never really thought about the thread that I'm using, but want to see what everyone uses for their quilting.
Re: What thread do you use?
For my other quilt top I used my all purpose thread and when I got to the quilting part I got machine quilting thread I just forgot to change it before I started working on the next top last night lol. So I did not know if it really mattered or what. I think I will change it tonight and see what happens!
