I have a Black & Decker and it's OK. Nothing to write home about. The one I had before that would come apart with only the very back of the handle holding the thing together!! My one complaint is that the soleplate is so small. Not as big as the base of the iron. So, if you think you're fusing something you might actually be an inch or so short!
As for cleaning the tulle off the iron, you can iron over a dryer sheet. Makes a mess on the ironing board, so put wax paper or aluminum foil on the board. It took melted carpet off my Rowenta travel iron. Don't ask!
