    Default Hand Piecing to knot or not?

    Hi
    I am attempting my first hand pieced quilt and would like been keen to hear from someone in regards to if I should start with a knot and not?

    Seems to me that yes you would start with a knot, but someone may come along who knows more.
    Blessed are the children of the piecemakers for they shall inherit the quilts!

    I would start with a small knot and pull it through into the batting so it doesn't show.

    I've not attempted it yet, but I have had this filed away for reference. One thing that has kept me from hand piecing is the thought of constantly making knots. This makes less bulk than a quilters knot and sounds like it would be more efficient.

    Some of the most charming quilts, I've seen, are knotted.
    OLD school, is good! The roots of quilting...
    We still have one of my MIL, and it's still hanging in', after nearly 40 years!
    I really need to get off the exclamation point.
    It may give people the idea that I'm bright and cheerful all the time....

    I always start and end each seam with a knot. Pull thru the top and bury it in the batting. It just becomes second nature after awhile you don't even think about it. Not hard.

    This is how I was taught to hand piece. When actually quilting, you do make a knot and bury it in the batting. No knots in piecing, knots in quilting. Thanks for the tut
