Default I'm having a brain cart. HELP

I know the answer to my question will be one that I slap myself in the head for. I cannot figure this out and I know that I know the answer.
Here is my dilemma: I am making a 9 patch block that will be cut 10" square. What are the measurements I need to cut my squares to make a 10" unfinished block?

You are sure you want them to be 10" unfinished? Which will be 9.5" finished? If you cut your squares 3 & 3/4 ", the result will be a smidge over 10" when you sew them together with 1/4" seams.

Or you could trim your 10" squares down to 9 1/2" if they are from a layer cake. A lot of us have found that the layer cakes can be off on their measurements.
