I sketched up a basic design of what I assume each block should look like before being sewn into one complete topper. The black coloured in parts are supposed to be the sashing. In the drawing there's a gap between each block but in real life there won't be.

I think I'm going to use jelly rolls and honey buns for this quilt. Now I just have to find the fabric I like

Well I visited the local quilting store that opened up in town and I got a little scrap bag of fabric, I assumed it was just odd ends after the fabric had been cut into jelly rolls. I cut them to the length that I wanted and today I stitched a few pieces together in the shape of the block I'm aiming for.

I haven't added the sashing since I didn't have any solid coloured fabric to test with. But I'm really happy with how the test turned out. They're the perfect size, exactly how I wanted them. I was thoroughly excited when I finished one block and saw that I'd lined up my seams perfectly, something that's never happened for me. I did a second test to see if my seam aligning was a fluke ... another perfect seam! I can't wait to get some scrap pieces to do the sashes to find out if my design will work.

    Yay!
