I can't help with your math but I love that quilt!! You could just save yourself the math and aggravation and just do hourglass blocks and it would be beautiful in KF fabric.
My brain likes math, but it looks like you have already figured out something that works for you. I won't open the door to possible confusion by throwing out anymore numbers. Congrats on figuring this one out!

There are twoways to go at this one. Alter Ego is one way or you could do Square in a Square. Youtube "Square in a Square" and see what you find.
Harriett Hargrave book Sophomore Year, I think says cut the squares to make triangles 7/8 inch bigger than the four patch and then cut in half diagonally. I LOVE her quilts skills books. Good luck!
