Hulu, I looked and that one seems a bit difficult. You have to cut strips and make a block before you put the blocks together. is that the one you are referring to?
I agree that watching a lot of uTube videos is a great way to begin..... I'd suggest Jenny's videos, the Goutmet Wuilter, and Quilty, eith Mary Fons... There are lots if others.
Take a beginner's glass, if you can. And get good quality tools....rotary cutter, mat, a couple of basic rulers...
Good luck to you.... We'll all be so happy to answer any questions you might have... The only dumb question is the one you don't ask!
Good luck!

I have the GO and I love it! It does get expensive in a hurry with having to buy not only the cutting machine but also the dies. But I feel that it is worth it to me because I hate to use my rotary cutter and hate using scissors even more. I pay good money for the fabric I use for my quilts and the GO gives me perfect cuts and little waste. Just my opinion. Do and use what works best for you!
Quilt as you go is easy. This tute might be a good start for you. Really random.

I'm getting to love my sissors again. I sewed clothes for so long that the rotary cutter was fun. But... It was easier to use scissors on orange peels. Don't give up on them entirely.![]()

Since you are new to quilting I would hold off on this purchase for now, and keep with the basics. You can tie up alot of money in that gizmo. I would keep your first quilt simple. Perhaps buying a couple of charm packs and sewing them together. Then if you see you like quilting, start saving your money for the go cutter and the dies. What supplies for sewing to you have already? I would not buy any patterns, just google quilt patterns. Here is a good link to start with. Quilt Blocks Galore! They have a great site that will tell you if it is an easy or hard block. I would start there with something easy.
If funding isn't an issue, I wouldn't hesitate getting the GO! One of the hardest things when I first began this addiction, ummm I mean hobby is cutting straight. So many quilts start with strips and the GO! has strip dies, pretty expensive, but they really saved my bacon in the beginning..... I use mine now mostly for triangles, flying geese and I have a few for the entire block, like the Ohio Star which is my favorite quilt of all time.
I am a newbie quilter also and I learned from watching the you tube videos of Jenny and everyone else that had interesting videos, but Jenny's was the best at MSQC. I vote for the jelly roll race. It gives you a chance to make a quilt easily and fast so you can have a finished product. It is a great confidence builder to have that first quilt done.
I have a good fair of sewing supplies including rotary cutter and cutting mat. I just got some Kai scissors of which are amazing.
I'm not going to buy that cutter. Like you all said. Best to get an understanding of what I'm doing and why by cutting myself. Not myself but doing the hand cuting . Lol
I am also a new quilter. In the beginning I bought a couple of kits that included almost everything. it really helped me to understand how it all goes together. I made a quilt for my new grandson and a wall hanging with kits. Also I'd be lost without Jenny's tutorials!! I also purchased a couple of books.
