Default Janome 7700 and FMQ problems

    Hi to all.

I am a new member and I figure you are all experts. I have a Janome 7700 and have used it for piecing and FMQ since 2013. I find the 1/4 inch foot to be less than accurate so I use a moleskin to the right of the straight stitch foot and I have more success attaining the 1/4 inch seam. Let us not talk about the "scant 1/4 "-- that remains a "dream". My question is about FMQ problems. I use a Supreme slider, I drop the feed dogs, I have used various types of needles, various types of thead, and I havw used the auto tension, the FMQ feet and pressure setting as recommended. No matter what I have tried I still have tension problems on the back of the quilt. Fast, medium, slow speeds have all been used. Does anyone out there in FMQ Land have suggestions, aside from either hand quilting or sending to a longarm quilter? I have hand quilted but I have arthritis in my thumbs so I prefer not to consider that option. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried the blue dot bobbin case? I have a Janome 8200 which is very similar to your 7700 and picked up for about $30 the blue dot case and it makes a difference for me. I also have better luck using 100% polyester thread - Gutermann works well for me. I have some Isacord that I just recently purchased but will need to get a thread stand to use it. I have had good luck doing FMQ with Aurifil as well.

I don't do a lot of FMQ, partly because I'm not very proficient yet, but also because I really like straight line quilting.

Check out Leah Day's website too, she FMQ's (or did for a long time, I think she's back to a Juki now) on a 7700.

I would start a new thread for this question and indicate in the subject line that it is a 6600 question. There are quite a few 6600 users here I think and it would be good to flag their interest.

None of the info on any web sites specifies , my repairman doesn't know, no close dealer, and getting into Janome computerized answering system, oh my. Does anybody know?

I believe Leah Day when FMQ with the 7700 did NOT drop her feed dogs with the supreme slider just made sure her stitch length at 0

Keep changing the tension until the machine is sewing as it should is my advice. I just got the 8900 pretty recently and have had to adjust the tension for FMQing depending on the weight of the fabric, the thread and the batting. You have a great machine. Don't give up! Have you taken everything out of the bobbin area and cleaned it lately? I do that every few bobbin changes. Lint can build up pretty quickly. Also, it might be time to bring it to your dealer to be serviced.
