Ok I'm at a quilt show and looking at this machine. Double size throat of one I have. Is it any good. Man is offering Good price with extras. Quick google looks like there was a recsl in America but I presume they have fixed that. I will ask him anyway. Price is in yen 160,000. About 1,400 dollars ?
Need to decide next 4 hours!!! So tempted. I tried a sweet 16 but that was at least 3.5 times the price. But I LOVED it.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Units: About 600
Importer: Janome America Inc. of Mahwah, N.J.
Hazard: The wires inside the sewing machine can short circuit, posing a risk of fire.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm knows of one report of a sewing machine catching fire. No injuries or property damage have been reported.
Description: This recall involves the Elna eXcellence 740 sewing machine. The machine is white and navy with a digital touch panel. “Elna” and “eXcellence 740” are printed on the front of the machine.
Sold at: Sewing machine stores nationwide from September 2010 through April 2011 for about $3,000.
Manufactured in: Japan and Taiwan
Remedy: Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the machine and return it to the store where it was purchased for a free repair.

I'm finding a 730 and a 760 on their website, but not a 740.......
Searching further, it looks like an Elna 740 is the same as the Janome 7700. If that is indeed the same machine, the price I found for the 7700 is $2500 on the one site I went to that lists prices. Is it the Janome that has the computerized screen and then what looks like a big dial underneath? If so, I'd say what you were told is a most excellent price. That is the machine I was going to get and in town it was $2700.

I think it's a very good price. If you scroll down, the price is $2500 (a couple years ago)

I bought it. !!! 1,350 Dollars. Will pay back over about a year!! Got 70 dollar cone thread holder , delivery and about one hour instruction. Also asked for them to send me English manual! They recalled and repaired all machines so no problem. Throat is 28cm. About double of mine. Loads of feet included include walkimg/ echo/ cording. Attachment 98989
Wooohoooo! Nice machine, great price and nice goodies to go with it. I am sure you will be happy with it. And that is a big throat! Think of all the quilts you can fit under there.
You are going to love the large throat space! I had a 7700, now have a 8900, they are virtually identical, one is just an update. I'd say you got a great deal! I don't know about financing in Japan, but I have done the financing through Janome for so many of my machines! Makes it much less painful!

I am worried it had so many stitches and feet, but I presume I will get used to it. ! I also tried out the Sweet 16 wow. That was fun, but about 3,5000 dollars so too much, and too big my husband pointed out. ( guess once this one is paid off I can start to save for it- kids may have moved out by then and I can use one of their rooms :)Quote:
