    Default Minky

Jenny said in one of her tutorials that she has used minky for the back of several quilts, my question is did she use batting with it or not?

Probably not. There have been several posts here about using Minky - there are a couple different types. Actually depends upon the final use of the quilt, size, climate, etc. If I were making a baby quilt I definitely would not use batting in it. And, even a very large quilt would be extremely heavy if it had batting in it.

    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I have made many quilts with Minky backs. My kids insist on it whenever I make a quilt for them! I have used batting in them and yes they can be heavy but they are so cuddly. And they wear very well! Usually there's no need for other blankets during our Chicago winters!

I make them with batting also! Nice and warm and cuddly! Not sure if Jenny uses batting or not, sorry I can't help you there.

Depends on the type of minky you're using. There is two sided and one sided. I'd use batting with the one sided, not with the two sided. The bonus of the two sided is not having to work with 3 layers. Fabric.com has a good selection of 2 sided minky.

I like the one sided and have found that I like using flannel instead of batting when using minkee. I prewash the flannel in hot water and dry on high heat to get the maximum shrinkage.

And remember, spray basting is your friend.

Thanks for the advice. I was confused as MSQC does not sell the double sided minky and therefore figured Jenny used the regular and just wondered if batting was necessary or not with what I guess is termed single sided.

Double napped flannel at Fabric.com would work excellent as well.
