When sewing the Disappearing Hourglass blocks, background (white) fabric is puckering.
Question....I am sewing the 'Disappearing Hourglass' quilt and on my blocks the white fabric is puckering. I am sewing batiks to white cotton and trying not to stretch it very much. When I get the first part done into the hourglass block, it irons out beautifully and with no puckers, but when I cut it into the 9 patch and sew that together I am getting puckers. I am learning not to be a perfectionist, but this is definitely trying my sewing capabilities!!
Help?

There seem to be lots of problems with this pattern. Try using lots of starch to help control the bias.

I am making the same quilt with Malam Batiks layer cake and white layer cake...same problem here. I noticed that starch and/or steam is fine at the hourglass stage. But after the nine patch is sewn together, I got better results with no steam or starch. Or else the white fabric would pucker. This has been the most challenging block for me!
