Batting yes or no
I have a queen quilt top and am using 90" minky backing. I am ready to quilt it and have made my sandwich but it is so heavy that i can't move it. I want to know if batting is absolutely necessary ?

I wouldn't use batting if you are backing it with minkie.

Re: Batting yes or no
I made a king-size quilt using a fleece for the backing and no batting. HEAVY and very, very warm.
Be warned. I am BORED.
This could be dangerous.
When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
They are usually 90 degrees.
A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I would skip the batting....the minky is enough.

Re: Batting yes or no
You don't really need anything inbetween. But, I like to use flannel and quilt just the top to the flannel then use just a few quilting lines to attach it to the minkee. I have done this several times and like the results. It's not heave and is very cuddly. I also wash and dry the flannel first.
If a quilt is going to be dragged around a lot I like to quilt over every seam to secure it. But that could be too much quilting on the minkee therefore I quilt most of it with just the top and flannel.
